Calvin and Hobbes is by far David's (14) and Jonathan's (11) favorite comic strip, and Stacy (the Dad) also gets a chuckle out of it. He particularly likes Hobbes facial expressions. I have to admit that I like reading it too, and I think that Calvin's Dad's answers to some of Calvin's questions (like where does the sun set) are just hilarious.

But another benefit for the kids, besides the fact that they are chuckling and having fun, is that Bill Watterson doesn't just use kiddie language. He actually uses long 3, 4, 5 and sometimes even 6 syllable words. If the kids want to really understand a sequence, sometimes they have to go and look up a word in the dictionary. And they don't even know that they are building their vocabulary!!!

The sad part is that Mr. Watterson has stopped creating the comic strip. I guess he burned out. Let's hope that his creative juices start flowing again.
